Medical Marijuana Growers In Colorado Will Start Testing Pesticides And Harmful Chemicals

Published

on

Beginning July 1st, Medical Marijuana growers in Colorado will have to test for pesticides and other potentially harmful chemicals. Medical marijuana testing has not been happening due to lack of enough labs to carry out the test. Currently, there are sufficient labs due to the explosion of the marijuana industry, and state lawmakers are keen to introduce this new law. As of nowrecreation, marijuana has to undergo certified testing for pesticide and other harmful chemicals before it is sold.

Pesticides have been a major debate with Ian Barringer the president of RM3 Labs in Boulder, noting that many samples would fail because of high mold and yeast content. Rm3 Labs recently hosted an event with businessowners that was an opportunity for the cannabis community to learn the test type, best practice and what to look for when selecting a medical lab.

Growers have noted that the new regulation is a good thing. It willgrantee safety and health of their customers.Shawn Honaker of Yeti Farms in Puebloobserves that everything that is sold to a client or customer should be testedthoroughly. He notes that he started preparing for the new regulation months ago, but he doubts whether grower like him are ready to embrace them.

Honaker notes that he does not think other producers will adopt the new regulation on a quick basis since they have other things on their plates. They currently have to deal with regulatory changes, proprietors, and everything one can think of, and this has become a frontal issue for them.

Testing requirements will increase the cost of producing marijuana while much of this will be passed to the consumer. The possibility of the new regulations forcing some business out of the industry is high.

Barringer notes that testing is entirely new to the medical industry. He further notes that he hopes all business will be in a position of taking the strain.
