Biogen Inc (NASDAQ:BIIB) Engages Sanjay Jariwala As SVP, Worldwide Medical

Biogen Inc (NASDAQ:BIIB) has appointed Dr. Sanjay Jariwala as SVP, Worldwide Medical. He will be responsible for driving and leading company’s Worldwide Medical plan working closely with Global Therapeutic Operations and R&D leadership teams. Dr. Jariwala will be based in Cambridge, and report directly to CMO Alfred Sandrock, Jr., M.D., Ph.D.

The details

Prior to joining Biogen, Dr. Jariwala was associated with AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, where he served on different roles including VP, Head of Strategy and VP of Infection, Autoimmunity, Anti-thrombotics and Neuroscience, Global Medical Affairs. During his tenure at AstraZeneca, he directed the makeover of the Worldwide Medical Affairs Council, advanced a strategic medical planning procedure to align R&D and commercial operations priorities, and established and created a new medical operating setup for both medical plan and execution at the regional, local and global levels.

Dr. Sandrock expressed that Dr. Jariwala track record and depth of experience of strategic integration of international therapeutic operations, commercial, advanced medical leadership across big organizations is impressive. He will be a significant addition to the Biogen as they continue to execute on their objective to transform the patients’ lives with complex neurodegenerative and neurological disorders.

Prior to AstraZeneca, Dr. Jariwala served as SVP, Global Head of Business Development and an affiliate of the Executive Committee at Vifor Pharma, and prior to that he was associated with Aspreva Pharmaceuticals in Vancouver. His extensive industry experience also comprises numerous senior Medical Affairs and Clinical Development guidance roles at GlaxoSmithKline in the metabolic, urology and cardiovascular therapy areas. Before moving to market, he served as a practicing physician for the NHS in the U.K.
