BAE SYSTEMS ADR (OTCMKTS: BAESY), a designer, developer and manufacturer of aerospace systems used in space, land, at sea, and in the air, is collaborating with environmental charity, Keep Scotland Beautiful to start a littler picking hub in Govan. This move is part of their objective to help the local community combat litter issues. BAE will launch another cleaning hub in Glasgow
Littering has worsened during the coronavirus lockdown.
To sponsor Keep Scotland Beautiful and its campaign to combat marine litter, BAE Systems will give Helping Hands Litter kits to the Scotsoun Eco Trust and Govan Housing Association. These kits will be available for community members to borrow.
The Keep Scotland Beautiful group held a survey in June 2020 that showed that about 30% of people believed littering had become a much bigger problem during the lockdown. The environmental charity, along with BAE Systems, is hoping that these kits will help ease the frustrations of local communities with litter.
According to the CEO of Keep Scotland Beautiful, Barry Fisher, the coronavirus lockdown has shown people that their green spaces and local parks and crucial in maintaining their mental health. However, some people do not respect these spaces and choose not to pick up after themselves. However, the equipment provided by the two hubs will enable people who care about their environment to clean their spaces.
Kits will enable community and individual cleaning exercises
The kits will have high visibility vests, litter pickers, bag hips, and gloves. These will allow people who want to keep their spaces clean to participate in individual or group cleaning exercises. Groups will also have access to social media posts and posters to encourage others to clean up their environment and keep Scotland beautiful.
Engineering and Academy Director at BAE Systems Naval Ships, Paul Feely, adds that it is excited to partner with Keep Scotland Beautiful to start a cleanup hub in Govan. BAE Systems cares about giving support to the local community.
Since the company is in Govan, BAE Systems sees the collaboration as a great way to connect with the community while taking care of the river essential to its business operations and Glasgow.
